Meals

The Food Standards Agency has awarded our nursery the highest 5 star rating for our Food Hygiene Standards.

We also hold a Gold Standard Healthy Snack Award for our nutritious snack menu and commitment in developing healthy eating habits during the early years.

Children are provided with breakfast, a midday main meal, light afternoon tea and a late afternoon snack. Milk and fresh drinking water is provided throughout the day.

Our in-house cook provides freshly cooked meals which are varied, healthy and nutritious to ensure the children have a carefully balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and are presented with foods they enjoy eating.

Mealtimes are an enjoyable social occasion where staff sit with children in small groups. Older children are encouraged to help lay the tables and clear away. They often have the opportunity to help chop fruit, serve themselves and pour drinks.

Information received from parents about dietary requirements are followed and alternative dishs offered if necessary in accordance to parental wishes. Any concerns about eating habits are recorded and discussed with parents at the end of the day.

We hold cookery sessions twice a week where children learn about foods and explore new flavours in an educational and fun way. We involve children in a wide range of food activities such as tasting new fruits, chopping vegetables for a soup, weighing ingredients, cutting shaped cookies or preparing foods for a special event or festival celebration.
