Our Story

Sandringham Nursery was set up and remains in the ownership of sisters Ali Harrison and Sarah Arabestani. We opened the doors to our first customers in September 2003. By Christmas, the Nursery was full and has been oversubscribed ever since.

Prior to opening the Nursery, we both lived in the Waterloo Gardens vicinity and as mothers ourselves were aware of the lack of high quality nursery facilities within the local area. As such, the idea of setting up our own nursery was born.

The Nursery is situated in a converted Edwardian house. It backs on to Marlborough Road Infants School and is directly opposite Roath Mill Gardens in Penylan. We bought the premises as a residential dwelling in December 2001 and applied for planning permission for change of use into a Nursery. Permission was initially refused, but was later won on appeal.

Upon opening, we both worked in the nursery full time for the first eighteen months. However, family circumstances changed and today we both work at the Nursery on a part time basis.

Sarah is the Registered Person with CIW and is responsible for ensuring Nursery standards remain high with both staff and daily operations. Sarah still lives locally and attends the premises on a regular basis. Ali is responsible for the Nursery accounts and finances. She has since moved to London with her family, but communicates with the Nursery on a daily basis and visits once a month. Whilst not on the premises, we both make good use of the webcam facilities!

Our intention has always been to provide childcare that we would want for our own children. Indeed, all of our children attended Sandringham Nursery. Having set up the business from scratch, we are immensely proud of our Nursery. We simply want to provide outstanding, independent childcare in the Penylan area.

You may know us well or be just discovering us; either way we hope you enjoy Sandringham Nursery as much as we enjoy running it!
